"How would you like to be a graphic designer?" These are the words I heard from my mentor, the words that boosted me from an advertising assistant to a career in design. I began working with her just six months earlier so I was thrilled. And there I was, on the fast track to the world of rulers, grids, and guides. Then I fell for it all—typography and ampersands, calligraphy and fonts, logos and branding, photography and light, negative space and texture, color and ink, letterpress and paper.
